Old & Original 1950’s Marquee from a Motel. These are the same type used at Theaters, Car Lots, etc. This sign has NEON backlit glass/plastic panels that have a great glow when turned on. The sign was recently serviced in a neon shop to be cleaned and have a new transformer installed. Sign has a green porcelain frame that’s been painted over with brownish red paint. I like the Patina so i’ve left it as is. Can is in as found condition, but it’s all solid. We can get it anywhere in the US 48. In the last few years Ive gotten more aggressive about collecting Double Cola and Original Neon signs. Original neon sign REEF APARTMENTS Wildwood NJ vintage neon mid-century design

Original neon sign from the Reef Apartments in Wildwood NJ is a chevron-shaped circa 1960 vintage double-sided hanging neon swing sign. Hundreds of these once existed in the Wildwoods. This was acquired close to 20 yrs. Ago, the building still exists on the beach block of Leaming Ave. We have finally gotten around to redoing the neon on one side. We will also be at Wildwood Historical Society this week seeking a photo of the sign when it was on the building to post here. Colors are the original turquoise, pink, white& red. Looks like vinyls were added over some faded original hand painted letters in the late 1980’s, they were too faded to restore. The sign body is in very good shape and the transformers are original, secure and working. All the access panels and housings are intact and original. Sign has perfect aged patina, it has not been cleaned. We have the real stuff for the past 20 yrs. Sign measures 53″ long x 50″ high x 13 wide. It can still be hung by its brackets & angle iron or just will sit as is, ready to plug in. We can also restore the other side if desired. Original neon sign SEASHELL MOTEL Wildwood NJ vintage neon mid-century design

The Seashell Motel neon sign was one of the most well known and photographed in a famous neonland, Wildwood NJ. It hung for over a half century at Atlantic & Rio Grande Aves. A block from the boardwalk on the main roadway into the city. A double-sided classic of turquoise, pink, white and yellow neon, it was always fully lit until 2 yrs. Ago when new owners bought the complex which originally started out in 1950 as a motor court. It defiantly glowed all during Hurricane Sandy in 2013 when the island was evacuated, a comforting sight from our studio across the street as we rode out the storm which fortunately did little damage to this area. The sign was unceremoniously taken down this past Memorial Day weekend. At this time it is being offered in “as is” condition. Enough neon survived the haphazard takedown to light one side, some other units can be repaired, some have to be done over. We have all the patterns for the neon. Some power supplies are still inside, some were removed and available. The channel letters are still very strong and the whole sign has a that genuine old school patina. The bottom vacancy section is damaged from the brunt of the takedown as is the bottom of the motel section which is where over the years there was water damage since this was the low point. Numerous photos of the sign can be found online, just google Seashell Motel, Wildwood. Future plans are to possibly fully light it again as a whole or part out certain panels if there are no buyers in its current state. There is also a vintage neon sign display building here. Meanwhile it still has the angle iron thru it for moving & hoisting as is. It measures 88″ high at highest angle, 8′ long (add another foot for the current angle iron) and 15″ wide. It will take 4 strong individuals to move this classic if no lift is available, this is the real deal. Can hold for several months. Gorgeous original neon Falstaff sign frim the late 40s. Has been in my family since 1955, and has been turned on for the second time in the last 30 years to take these photos. There are definitely some imperfections here and there, and the metal on the back side has corroded a bit, but these things really add to the overall character.
