Vintage industrial french neon Bar Tabac sign, ancien enseigne neon carotte
Glorious bit of 60’s Paris, neon lit Carotte de tabac. Buralistes’ or tobacconists have been legally obliged since 1906 to display a sign. The origin of the’carotte’ is in the putting a little bit of carrot in ones tobacco pouch to help keep it moist. The carrot was adopted as the symbol during a time when literacy was low and a sign made more sense than text. Today all Buraliste carotte signs must be illuminated; wander around Paris and they are an everpresent reminder of the French love affair with smoking. This gorgeous extruded aluminium carotte is anodised in red with a subtle TABAC text vertically visible on the cones. It is lit by a 10mm’neon’ cold cathode tube, it is clear when not switched on an an unmistakable red neon when lit. Very easily installed, no complicated wiring, twist together connectors and plug your transformer into your 230v household, Two minutes and it will be lit. It is 80cm in height and comes with a wall mounting bracket, it stands 40cm wide from the wall. It has been mounted on its other face at one time and the mounting bracket holes are still present. It is in full working order, ready to be installed. There is no transformer included as you may need to source one for your country, for the UK please ask for what I may have available. You will not find another one like this for sale, believe me I tried for a long period to source one. I will post worldwide and will package the neon tubing up to maximise protection but cannot guarentee working order on arrival.
