Huge Vintage 1950's Chevrolet 2 Sided 25' Neon Porcelain Metal Gas Oil Sign

For your consideration a vintage 1950’s sign. The sign is made of metal and is double sided. The signs have a porcelain finish and are made to be neon lit. The glass neon tubes for the letters are missing. Each side has three porcelain panels that make up Chevrolet. The transformers look to be complete and the body of the sign is still in good condition. The porcelain signs are still in good condition and there is no touch up. They could use a good cleaning. It measures overall with the mounting brackets 45″ in depth by 285″ in height. The body with the porcelain signs measures 280 1/2″ in height by 34″ in depth by 14 1/2 in width. The hanging bracket on the top measures 42 across. I can store the sign for as long as needed as long as it is paid for. It is in Crawfordsville, Indiana zip code 47933. It originally hung in front of City Chevrolet in Chicago’s famous auto row. An excellent addition to any advertising collection or if you just want to own a really neat old sign and a great piece of history. NOS BNIB authentic LONE STAR BEER Neon Sign / Bar Light with huge TEXAS vtg

ID Tag on the transformer tells me this sign was made NOV 1989, making this sign 30 years old! Sign is in absolutely brand new/unused shape! There is no damage or flaws of any type to the sign and it is still in the original box. The only time it has been turned on was to take the listing photos. The neon colors are all vivid without any color loss or fading on the glass. All glass tubing is in great shape with no cracks or scrapes in the coloring. The blackout paint behind the tubes does show some “crazing” this is only in the paint! The glass is pristine which is typical after sitting for this long. I personally think the crazing in the blackout paint makes it look cooler. This is the large version of this sign measuring 28″ Tall X 28″ Wide X 6.5 Deep. Electrical cord is in great shape and not at all brittle or stiff. There is a more common smaller one that you see for sale somewhat often which is heavily copied by Chinese bootleggers. If you search “lone star neon” you will literally see hundreds of these fakes and about 5-10 actual authentic (made in AMERICA) Lone Star neons. The worst part is- the fakes look nothing like the listing photos. Also be weary of “new” signs out of California or Houston as they are mostly fakes as well. If you have any respect for yourself or this country you will not settle for a lesser quality, cheaply made Chinese knock-off of ANYTHING, let alone a neon sign which if not made properly could burn your house down. THE SIGN IS HUGE. ALL THE LETTERS ARE 4 INCHES THICK. THE “E” IS ABOUT 18″ TALL X 14″ LONG. THE “XX” IS ABOUT 40″ AT THE LONGEST POINT, AND 31″ ACROSS THE FRONT. THE “O” IS ABOUT 19″ TALL X 18-1/2″ LONG. THE “N” IS ABOUT 18″ TALL X 16″ LONG. EACH LETTER HAS NEON LIGHTING INSIDE. THE WIRES WERE CUT WHEN THEY TOOK IT DOWN, SO I HAVE NO WAY TO TEST IT. ALL THE TUBING AND LETTERS LOOKS GOOD, EXCEPT THE “XX” HAS ONE SECTION OF TUBING BROKE OFF, AND ONE PIECE OF PLASTIC BROKE OFF THE LETTER. YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO SEE BOTH IN THE LAST 2 PICTURES. THERE ARE A FEW SCREWS MISSING, THAT HOLD THE LETTERS TOGETHER, AND SOME OF THE SEALING PIECES ARE MISSING, BUT BOTH OF THOSE ARE VERY EASY FIXES. OTHER THAN THE ISSUES MENTIONED, ALL THE OTHER WEAR IS VERY MINOR, AND NOT SERIOUS AT ALL. OVERALL, EVERYTHING APPEARS TO BE IN GOOD SOLID CONDITION.
