Vintage Neon Action Ad Clock Warner Electric Chicago serial #10-10254. Measures 24″ across, 12 3/8″ tall and 7deep. The outside case is wood, which looks like walnut stained mahogany. It has its original finish and several nicks and scratches. The most prominent being a 3 scratch on the right side of the box. It was cleaned up with a bit of Old English but could probably use a good cleaning and a refinishing of the wood casing if desired. The neon around the two quadrants says the color is “Voltarc Blue”. All the neon is in good condition but could use a good cleaning as it is very dusty. The right side of the sign is a clock which is a black and white art deco style paper face with a piece of clear glass in front of it protecting the paper. The 4 corner clips do have a bit of visible rust (see photos). There are some places where there is a few rips in the paper where the clips go and where the neon comes out and at the top center of the 12 (see photos). The clock keeps excellent time. The left side of the clock has a rotary type mechanism that has the capacity for 6 pieces of paper to display messages or advertising on both sides, with 12 possible messages. Now it only has two black panels of paper with a message on both sides. One says, Lakeview Laundry, 3018 N. Clark, LAkeview 8-1027 in red and green. There are 7 or 8 pin head size dirt spots on the “L” and there is a small 1″ tear in the right corner of in the center of the “27. The opposite side of the laundromat ad is FOR A COST OF ONLY A FEW CENTS A DAY… I Build Up Business. The other piece of paper says in blue and pink, “THIS SPACE, Delivers 12 MESSAGES, (EVERY MINUTE), IN COLORS”. There is a small 1/2 rip right at the edge after the word EVERYONE. The rotary metal bar has quite a bit of rust, but could probably be repainted (see photos). The silver and black model number plate inside the rotary side says, ACTION AD CLOCK Division of, WARNER ELECTRIC COMPANY, INC. 60626, US PATENT N0. 2, 057, 465″ And then serial number, “10-10254. The back has a paper label which lists the address as ELECTRIC AD CLOCK CO. The two digit zip codes were discontinued in 1964 and the inside has a 5 digit zip code, so this piece, most likely is early to mid 1960’s. Running and working fine for the hour while completing the listing. 3 prong grounded plug, approx 6 ft long with cord in good condition. There is no switch to turn it on or off, if its plugged in it is on, if it is unplugged, it is off. No guarantee on how long the neon or starter or transformer will last. This is a vintage item, and at some point will probably need re-furbishing. We will consider reasonable offers, anything less than reasonable will be rejected.
