The store that previously owned it claimed that it was a piece which hung inside of the Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY. Back in the days when they spelled it “Theatre”, rather than “Theater” as it spelled today. A second source claims that the sign was from restaurant in NJ that went out of business many years ago. They say that there was a fire which destroyed a large part of the building, putting the club out of business, but the sign survived unharmed, and then ended up in the hands of a local antiques dealer. Regardless of anything, it is an awesome looking piece! I have spent a lot of time looking all over the internet for another one like it, and haven’t found anything even close to it.
